Louis Albert Babcock was in business on this corner for 15 years (about 1920-1935) and he sold Sinclair gasoline. When he began the business, he had to delever gasoline by horse and wagon. Mr. Babcock is the man standing by the gas pumps with the hat on. Babcock lived on Caldwell at this time. At the time of his death, in 1943, he worked at the Prairie Home Cemetery where he died while digging a grave (he was 73). He was born in Waukesha in 1870. This information comes from his granddaughter, Mrs. Raymond Wendell nee Muriel Babcock. |
